LEGO Pro-D Camp (SD69 & Homeschool)

Description:

Build LEGO creations then program them to move using drag and drop programming!

We will provide your child with access to LEGO Education kits, a laptop to code with, and two trained Outreach Educators to guide them with building!

Building time will be broken up with LEGO-themed crafts and outside time.

Students will keep an observation journal as we learn about different species in each location. In addition to these hands-on activities, all children will take part in art projects, ecological awareness, and connections to First Nations traditional knowledge will also be incorporated.

Program Details

To help ensure social distancing, Nanaimo Science is:

  • offering smaller class/camp sizes
  • increasing the ratio of Leaders to children for greater supervision
  • removing all shared items and providing individual activities for children
  • instituting rigorous hand-washing, cleaning and sanitizing
  • planning outdoor time and a balance of learning and recreation that will help children ease back into educational activities
  • Children must be healthy to attend all activities with Nanaimo Science – any child exhibiting signs of sickness, fever, or cough/sneezing will be sent home, as will their siblings.

Cost: $55/student (taxes waived)

Stay & Play

For certain programs, “Stay&Play Camp” time will be available.  This optional time will be from 3-5pm. at an additional cost of $10 per day per child.  Pre-registration is required online. Registration is available by the day, you do not need to register for the whole week.

Please note:

  • Stay&Play is only open to children registered in the program offered that day.
  • Limited spaces are available.
  • Stay&Play will be cancelled if there are no registrants one week prior to the start of camp.
Program Policies

Participation: At Nanaimo Science, we offer a variety of activities to support learning and exploration for all children. If you have questions about whether a program is right for your child, please contact us. We are committed to working with families to reduce barriers to participation wherever possible.

Nanaimo Science reserves the right to expel any participant, without refund of fees, who behaves inappropriately, is disruptive to other participants, volunteers or staff, or becomes a danger to themselves or others.

Cancellation, Withdrawal and Refunds: Nanaimo Science reserves the right to cancel a program one week prior to the start date, and will refund all fees for a cancelled program. Programs cancelled less than one week prior to the start date due to unforeseen reasons (including but not limited to weather conditions or site safety) will be rescheduled or fees will be refunded as credit towards another program.

Withdrawals/Refund must be requested in writing more than two weeks prior to the program start date. Any withdrawals or changes will be subject to a $10 administrative fee. There are NO REFUNDS given for withdrawals requested less than two weeks prior to the first day of a registered program or at any time during the program. Pro-rated refunds are NOT available for days absent from a registered program.

Punctuality: Nanaimo Science will not assume responsibility for children before or after camp or after Stay&Play if a child has been pre-registered for Stay&Play (when available). A $25 late pick-up fee may be charged. Repeated late pick-ups can result in cancelled participation without refund.

Images/Media: Photos and videos taken during summer camps are used for Nanaimo Science promotional materials, publications and advertisements. Please note, we never publish children’s names. Parents/guardians may request no photos or videos be taken of their children.
